FAQ
Where is Dead Ground apparel made?
In the United States. Our tees start as US-grown cotton waste, get spun into yarn in North America, then are knit, dyed, cut, and sewn in Los Angeles by small and family-run factories that pay fair wages. Our cap is made with the same partner in the USA. We name every partner so you can check.
What is the fabric made from?
100% reclaimed waste cotton, made by Everybody.World, an independent, woman and minority-owned company in Los Angeles. During yarn manufacturing, usable cotton fiber gets left behind and sent to landfills. They built a process that recovers that fiber and spins it into new fabric. No virgin cotton is grown for our tees, which means less water, less energy, and fewer chemicals than conventional cotton. It's not offcuts from old clothes. It's fiber that was headed to the ground, put back to work.
Who actually sews the garments?
Workers in fair-wage Los Angeles factories, many of them small and family-run shops. The people making your shirt are paid what they're worth. That's the whole point.
What about your hats?
The Vulture Hat is a black 100% cotton twill dad cap, made with Everybody.World in the USA. Same partner as our tees, different material: the tees are reclaimed waste cotton, the cap is standard cotton twill.
Where does the money go?
$1 from every item sold goes to the Clackamas River Basin Council, a local nonprofit restoring streams, salmon habitat, and the river that supplies drinking water to more than 300,000 people across the Portland metro area. We donate quarterly and share the totals by email. Look them up yourself: EIN 91-1838169.
Why don't you just say "sustainable" and move on?
Because that word has been worn out by companies that don't mean it. We name our partners so you can check our work. We'd rather tell you exactly where things come from and let you decide.
